Farne Islands

The Farne Islands are situated between two and five miles off the Northumberland coast close to the village of Seahouses. In total there are 28 islands and 15 of which can be seen at high tide.

As well as being a sea bird sanctuary they are also home to a large colony of Atlantic Grey Seals, with between 3000 to 4000 of this rare species on and around the islands.

The colony on the islands are one of the most import in Europe with over 1000 seal pups being born between October and November.

These Islands are protected by the national trust and are very popular with bird watchers, with over 45,000 people visiting the Islands every year.

When diving the Farne Island you should hopefully see the local inhabitants, an encounter with a mature bull seal will get anyone's heart racing especially when they can way up to 300kg. They may be clumsy on land but in the water they demonstrate balletic movements that we can only espire to.

Younger seals come even closer and even have a habit of testing the durability of your fins.
